Why I use #blacklivesmatter

This is a post from a status I made on Facebook to explain who I am and why I, as a white Christian male, uses the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. I hope you find it helpful.

Why I use the #blacklivesmatter hashtag:

Let me make my position clear – I am a Christian. That means that first and foremost I am a follower of my Lord and Savior, Jesus, the Christ. My worldview is Biblical. This is who I am.

I am an intellectual – meaning I attempt to process all information logically and consider all data from every angle (including those not within my worldview) to draw a conclusion. I try to remove bias but aware that is not 100% possible.

I am a truth seeker. Although many statements are true, true statements alone may not represent the truth. The truth is the whole picture. Truth exists whether we believe it exists or not. Truth is discovered and not created.

Politically I am conservative, constitutional, and generally vote Republican.

To be clear, being a registered Republican does NOT drive my worldview. My worldview draws me to this conclusion (more on this later).

This may confuse some people when I use the exclusive hashtag of #blacklivesmatter

Does that mean that I do not care about other lives or hate police officers? NO! Do not be stupid! I deeply love every life (good, bad, and ugly) because humans carry the Imago Dei (Image of God). I am pro-life from conception to the casket.

What #blacklivesmatter means to me is bringing awareness to an injustice that is very real and evident within our culture in spite of majority ignorance. It exist whether you have experience with it or not. I have educated myself on the topic. I reject all propaganda. I have considered the facts.

What it does NOT mean is that I am for the small percentage of violent and militant factions calling themselves Black Lives Matter that the media loves to exploit. Hell cannot fight hell. Violence is not the answer. I will NEVER support violent protests that call for the death of police officers, etc… Let me be clear, this makes up such a small percentage of those that use the same hashtag of #blacklivesmatter

In conclusion, I am Republican based upon these key principles which I believe stem from my Biblical worldview: Civil rights and civil liberties (founding principle for formation in 1854), Religious liberties, Limited government, and Justice (Jus Fidus Libertatum) as a few.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican for those very same reasons.

I hope this helps you understand who I am. I am a Christian. All other labels bow to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
